Holy Priests

Healing as a priest is as easy as it gets and in every raid you'll be in, you should easily top the heals meter. Here's the info you need to dominate the competition and ensure your place in raids.

Stats

Spell Power - Do I really need to explain why? - The more the better
Mana Per 5 - Regen mana While in Casting is the only one that matters - You will be worthless if you run out of mana, The higher the better
Spirit - For a priest spirit contributes to your Mp5, at lv80 an 80 point buff will net you roughly 23 extra Mp5 while casting.
Intelligence - Increases your mana pool
Haste - increases you cast speed helps on the intense battles but hard to come by.

My Spec

This is the spec I play http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbhZcxtccMqihbthAo:bfGcVz. Its geared more toward raid tank healing but you will never have a problem in a raid heals role or in a regular dungeon.

My thoughts:
-Meters - Really! They don't matter! Total Healing is the one to look at (Are you on top?) As for the overhealing meters, they are just a way to brag about pissing away mana, I try to keep mine less then 20%, which sounds like a lot but most of it comes from Prayer of Mending which you really don't have much control over.
-Light Well - one word, useless, most people don't pay attention to their own health until they die, and would rather complain then take responsibility for their own lives.
-Circle of Healing - This is for the Wanna Be's - It is the best way to piss away your mana.

How-To

Your Bread and Butter, Meat and Potatoes, Spaghetti and Meatballs, whatever... Will be Flash Heal (FH) , Greater Heal (GH), Prayer of Mending (PoM) and Renew.
-Flash Heal - Quick Mid-Grade heal
-Greater Heal - Big Heal with one hell of a cast time
-Prayer of Healing - Like flash heal but jumps from player to player (who ever has the lowest health) Will be the reason for 70% of you overhealing
-Renew - Your Heal over Time spell (HoT) Should ALWAYS BE UP on the tank from the moment the battle starts to the moment it ends

Typical Battle (Every Battle) - Renew, PoM, FH,FH,...PoM, Renew, FH, FH,...
-Only use Greater Heal when the tank is around 40-50% health, the high mana cost and long cast time really suck and keep you from being able to toss a heal on someone else that needs one.

Non-Typical Battles -
-Heigan - You'll need to use Abolish Disease on people.
-Loatheb - (Have Deadly Boss Mod or equivalent running) Make sure you are in the same group that you Main assignment is in. When necrotic aura is roughly 2.6-7 secs from lifting start casting Prayer of HEALING to heal everyone in your group then follow up with PoM and Flash Heal on the main tank, Also don't be afraid to throw Shadow Word: Pain and Devouring Plague on the boss since the aura prevents you from healing anyway.
-Instructor Razuvious - You will end up needing to spam Greater heal instead of Flash Heal to be effective if you are healing the trainees.

Mana Control

1)First of all use common sense and don't piss away mana overhealing. (Are you getting the hint yet?)
2)Any Trinkets/Spells that increase you Mp5 (as soon as they would be beneficial)
3)Use Shadow Fiend when you get to roughly 25-30% mana
4)Use a potion only after you've gotten all the mana your gonna get from Shadow Fiend, If your Shadow Fiend refills you mana to the max and you don't think your mana will last throughout the remainder of the fight use your potion as soon as you can without wasting any because it would restore more mana then it would take to get you back to your max.
5)Trinkets/Spells again
6)Shadow Fiend once again. As of this writing Shadow fiend has a 5 Min cool down so if you can't make it through the cool down you need to assess the situation and figure out why. Are you overhealing? Is the tank the problem? Are the other healers slacking off? Always look inward before looking outwards for a solution.

Feel free to ask me any questions pertaining to holy priests or priests in general, I haven't/won't play a Discipline/Shadow priest so I won't/can't answer those questions because I don't know.

I must say I agree with all that was said by Kaesar. As for Shadow I can fill in the gaps just ask me when you see me if you want to know what the dark side of the priest life is capible of for either pvp or pve. So thanks again Kaesar. All Hail The Mighty Priest Class.
